I went to the Beaches Jazz festival yesterday. It was OK…a bit on the hot side and there were too many people for my taste. What saved the evening and was the highlight for me was when we ran into a young kid on the saxophone and flute, 15 year old Rob Christian:

He was really, really good.

I went to my friend’s wedding earlier this year…it was a traditional Chinese reception that was being filmed for the Food Network. It aired for the first time a couple weeks ago, and even though I was only in there for a split second or two, I’ve been recognized by 4 people I know! Without me mentioning it to them! Woohoo, I’m famous!

People who have that know-it-all attitude really rile me up.

Does your blood boil when you are given unsolicited advice? When someone tells you what and how to do something, especially when you didn’t ask, your gut instinct is to do the opposite. So then why do people still do it?

I think it’s built in to the male gender. Men always like to fix things, even when they don’t need fixing. I can certainly understand the mentality, but I try my best to know when to shut up and keep it to myself, until I’m asked.

I’m home after going from Toronto to LA to Vancouver to LA and back, all in one week. It’s pretty exhausting being on planes and airports so much. I did have a great trip though. I got to see my sister, dad and got to see some new sites including going wine tasting in the Santa Ynez Valley (home of The Bachelor’s family winery and where much of the film Sideways was filmed). I had the opportunity to see some old high school and university friends in both cities. I even had my first American Celebrity Siting™.

While on my way back to LA from Vancouver, I had Jason Statham of The Transporter fame and Matt Lillard (Shaggy from Scooby Doo) sit behind me on the plane (yeah, it was my first experience in 1st Class — I used my frequent flyer miles to pay for this flight and 1st Class was all that was available on this date. They treat you so much better there it’s not even funny. Too bad the flight was only 2 hours). Anyway, I didn’t bother talking to them or anything. That’s so uncool. I did however, overhear something interesting from the Transporter. On my way to the baggage claim, I took a detour to the men’s room. He followed me in and while down the hallway, I heard an enormous PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP sound come from behind.

    Yes, celebrities fart too.

I just flew back to LA from my Grandma’s funeral in Vancouver. It was the first funeral I’ve ever been to, so it was very interesting in that respect. I wasn’t that close to her, so it didn’t bother me that much. What gets me more is seeing my dad and his siblings being upset.

My sister had her wedding just a couple of days before in Santa Barbara. It was really great — she had a wedding on the beach, and then had a trolley take us up the scenic route up the hill to a hotel overlooking the town where we had a beautiful outdoor reception. I’ll put the pics up when I get back to Toronto.

My brother-in-law had a really cute nephew, just 6 months old. He’s huge and very playful. It got me thinking about how I’ve seen the various stages of life come full circle on this trip. From birth to marriage, and then back to death with my Grandma finally being buried next to my Grandpa afer over 20 years. I’m not quite sure what to make of it.
